Vaxphoid Injection 25 mcg/0.5 ml is a typhoid polysaccharide vaccine designed to provide active immunization against typhoid fever, a potentially serious systemic infection caused by Salmonella Typhi. The vaccine works by stimulating the body’s immune system to produce protective antibodies against the bacteria, thereby reducing the risk of infection and severe illness.
Typhoid fever is prevalent in areas with poor sanitation and contaminated food or water. Vaccination with Vaxphoid is an effective preventive measure for travelers to endemic regions, as well as for residents in high-risk areas.

Active Immunizing Agent
Vaxphoid contains purified Vi capsular polysaccharide antigen of Salmonella Typhi, which is adsorbed onto a carrier to enhance immunogenicity. Upon intramuscular administration, the antigen triggers the immune system to produce specific antibodies that target the S. Typhi bacteria. These antibodies help neutralize the pathogen and prevent its replication in the bloodstream, thereby protecting against typhoid fever.
The vaccine does not contain live bacteria and cannot cause typhoid infection. Protective antibody levels typically develop within 2–3 weeks after vaccination and last for approximately 2–3 years, after which a booster may be required.
Vaxphoid Injection is indicated for:
Active immunization against typhoid fever in individuals aged 2 years and above
Travelers to regions where typhoid fever is endemic
Residents in areas with high incidence of typhoid
Individuals in close contact with typhoid carriers or in environments with poor sanitation
Adults and children over 2 years: 0.5 ml intramuscularly, usually into the deltoid muscle
A single dose is generally sufficient for initial protection
A booster dose may be administered every 2–3 years depending on continued risk of exposure
The vaccine should not be administered intravenously or intradermally
Post-vaccination, individuals should be monitored for any immediate adverse reactions
Store at 2°C to 8°C
Protect from light
Do not freeze
Keep out of reach of children
Known hypersensitivity to any component of the vaccine
Acute severe febrile illness (vaccination should be deferred until recovery)
Administer with caution to individuals with a history of severe allergic reactions
Inform the healthcare provider about any chronic illnesses or immune system disorders
Vaccination does not replace good hygiene practices and safe food and water consumption
Vaxphoid Injection is generally well tolerated. Common side effects include:
Mild pain, redness, or swelling at the injection site
Low-grade fever
Headache or malaise
Rarely, mild gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea
Severe allergic reactions are extremely rare but require immediate medical attention.
Can be administered during pregnancy if clearly indicated
Safe for use during breastfeeding
Vaxphoid Injection induces active immunity by stimulating the production of anti-Vi antibodies against Salmonella Typhi. These antibodies prevent bacterial colonization and systemic spread, thereby protecting against typhoid fever.
