Fixocard Tablet 5 mg + 50 mg is a fixed-dose combination of Amlodipine Besilate, a calcium channel blocker, and Atenolol, a cardioselective beta-adrenergic blocker. This combination is designed to provide effective and sustained control of blood pressure by targeting two complementary mechanisms involved in hypertension. Fixocard is widely prescribed for patients who require combination therapy to achieve optimal cardiovascular control.

Fixocard Tablet is indicated for the treatment of:
Hypertension (High Blood Pressure) in patients not adequately controlled on monotherapy
Chronic stable angina pectoris
Hypertension associated with ischemic heart disease, where combined beta-blockade and vasodilation are beneficial
By lowering blood pressure and reducing cardiac workload, Fixocard helps decrease the risk of cardiovascular complications such as stroke, myocardial infarction, and heart failure.
Antihypertensive (Calcium Channel Blocker + Beta Blocker)
Each tablet contains:
Amlodipine Besilate IP equivalent to Amlodipine 5 mg
Atenolol IP 50 mg
Amlodipine inhibits the influx of calcium ions into vascular smooth muscle and cardiac muscle cells, leading to peripheral arterial vasodilation. This results in a reduction in systemic vascular resistance and blood pressure. Amlodipine also improves coronary blood flow, which helps relieve angina symptoms.
Atenolol selectively blocks β1-adrenergic receptors in the heart, reducing heart rate, myocardial contractility, and cardiac output. This decreases oxygen demand of the heart and contributes to effective blood pressure control.
The combination of Amlodipine and Atenolol provides additive antihypertensive effects while minimizing reflex tachycardia that may occur with vasodilators alone.
The usual recommended dose is one Fixocard Tablet once daily, or as directed by the physician. The tablet should be taken at the same time each day, with or without food. Dosage adjustment may be required based on patient response, age, and associated medical conditions.
Abrupt discontinuation, especially of Atenolol, should be avoided as it may worsen angina or precipitate cardiac events.
Caution is advised when Fixocard is used concomitantly with:
Other antihypertensives, which may enhance hypotensive effects
Antiarrhythmic agents or calcium channel blockers like verapamil or diltiazem
Insulin or oral antidiabetic drugs, as Atenolol may mask hypoglycemia symptoms
Patients should inform their healthcare provider of all medications they are taking.

Fixocard Tablet is contraindicated in patients with:
Hypersensitivity to Amlodipine, Atenolol, or any component of the formulation
Severe bradycardia, cardiogenic shock, or overt cardiac failure
Second or third-degree heart block
Severe hypotension
Common side effects may include dizziness, headache, fatigue, flushing, ankle edema, and cold extremities. Less common effects include bradycardia, gastrointestinal discomfort, sleep disturbances, and mild hypotension. Most adverse effects are mild and transient.
Fixocard should be used during pregnancy only if clearly needed and when the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus. Atenolol is excreted in breast milk; therefore, caution is advised when administering Fixocard to breastfeeding mothers.
Use with caution in patients with diabetes mellitus, bronchial asthma, peripheral vascular disease, or hepatic impairment. Regular monitoring of blood pressure and heart rate is recommended.
Store below 30°C, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of the reach of children.
