Esonix 40 mg contains Esomeprazole, a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) that effectively reduces gastric acid secretion. It is widely used in the treatment of acid-related gastrointestinal disorders such as gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), erosive esophagitis, peptic ulcer disease, and Zollinger–Ellison syndrome. By providing sustained acid suppression, Esonix 40 mg helps relieve symptoms, promotes mucosal healing, and prevents disease recurrence when used appropriately.

Esonix 40 mg is indicated for:
Relief of GERD-related symptoms, including persistent heartburn
Treatment of erosive esophagitis
Maintenance of healing of erosive esophagitis
Eradication of Helicobacter pylori infection in patients with duodenal ulcer disease when used with amoxicillin and clarithromycin
Zollinger–Ellison syndrome
Duodenal and gastric ulcers associated with acid dyspepsia
Proton Pump Inhibitors
Esomeprazole specifically inhibits the H⁺/K⁺-ATPase enzyme (proton pump) in gastric parietal cells, thereby blocking the final step of acid production in the stomach. As the S-isomer of omeprazole, esomeprazole provides more consistent and prolonged acid suppression than racemic proton pump inhibitors, resulting in improved symptom control and healing outcomes.
Erosive Esophagitis
20 mg or 40 mg once daily for 4–8 weeks
Maintenance of Healing
20 mg once daily
Symptomatic GERD
20 mg once daily for 4 weeks
Helicobacter pylori Eradication
Esomeprazole 40 mg once daily
Amoxicillin 1000 mg twice daily
Clarithromycin 500 mg twice daily
Duration: 10 days
Zollinger–Ellison Syndrome
20–80 mg once daily, adjusted individually
Acid-related Dyspepsia
20–40 mg once daily for 2–4 weeks
Duodenal Ulcer
20 mg once daily for 2–4 weeks

Injection
40 mg once daily by IV injection (minimum 3 minutes) or IV infusion (10–30 minutes), discontinued once oral therapy is possible
Take Esonix 40 mg one hour before meals
Swallow capsules whole; do not crush or chew
For patients with swallowing difficulty, capsule pellets may be mixed with soft, cold applesauce and swallowed immediately without chewing
IV formulation should be administered slowly after proper reconstitution
May reduce absorption of drugs dependent on gastric pH such as ketoconazole, iron salts, and digoxin
Can increase plasma levels of diazepam by reducing its clearance
No clinically significant interaction with amoxicillin, clarithromycin, warfarin, phenytoin, or oral contraceptives
Known hypersensitivity to esomeprazole or any component of the formulation
Common side effects include:
Headache
Diarrhea
Nausea
Abdominal pain

Long-term therapy shows a similar safety profile to short-term use.
Symptom relief does not exclude the possibility of gastric malignancy
Antacids may be used concurrently if required
Caution is advised in severe hepatic impairment
Long-term use should be monitored by a physician
There is no specific antidote for esomeprazole overdose. Management is supportive and symptomatic. Dialysis is unlikely to be effective due to high protein binding.
