Dicephin Injection 250 mg/vial IV contains Ceftriaxone Sodium, a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic used for the treatment of a wide range of bacterial infections. It is administered by intravenous (IV) or intramuscular (IM) route under the supervision of a registered healthcare professional. Ceftriaxone is known for its broad-spectrum bactericidal activity and long duration of action, allowing convenient dosing schedules.
Ceftriaxone works by interfering with bacterial cell wall synthesis. It binds to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs) within the bacterial cell wall, preventing the formation of a stable cell wall and leading to bacterial cell death. It is effective against many Gram-positive and Gram-negative organisms, making it suitable for both hospital-acquired and community-acquired infections.
The 250 mg strength is particularly useful in pediatric cases, mild to moderate infections, or in situations where lower dosing is clinically appropriate as determined by the physician.
