Amlodipine Besilate inhibits the influx of calcium ions into vascular smooth muscle and myocardial cells. This leads to relaxation of peripheral arteries, reduced systemic vascular resistance, and gradual lowering of blood pressure without significant reflex tachycardia. Its long duration of action supports stable 24-hour blood pressure control.
Telmisartan selectively blocks the binding of angiotensin II to the AT1 receptor in vascular smooth muscle and adrenal glands. Angiotensin II normally causes vasoconstriction and aldosterone secretion, resulting in sodium and water retention. By inhibiting these effects, telmisartan promotes vasodilation, reduces blood volume, and lowers blood pressure.
Together, amlodipine and telmisartan provide an additive and complementary antihypertensive effect, improving blood pressure control compared to either agent alone.
