Seropam Tablet 10 mg contains Escitalopram Oxalate, a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) used in the treatment of depression and anxiety disorders. By increasing serotonin levels in the brain, Seropam helps improve mood, reduce anxiety, and enhance overall emotional well-being. It is widely prescribed for patients suffering from major depressive disorder (MDD), generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), panic disorder, and social anxiety disorder, providing a balanced approach to mental health management.

Seropam 10 mg is indicated for:
Major depressive disorder (MDD) – alleviates symptoms such as low mood, loss of interest, fatigue, and sleep disturbances
Generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) – reduces excessive worry, tension, and restlessness
Panic disorder – decreases the frequency and severity of panic attacks
Social anxiety disorder – helps manage fear of social situations and performance anxiety
Escitalopram Oxalate, the active ingredient, is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) that works by:
Inhibiting the reuptake of serotonin (5-HT) at presynaptic nerve terminals
Increasing serotonin levels in the synaptic cleft
Enhancing neurotransmission in serotonin-dependent pathways, which improves mood and reduces anxiety
This selective mechanism minimizes effects on other neurotransmitters, resulting in fewer side effects compared to older antidepressants.
Adults: 10 mg orally once daily, with or without food
Depending on clinical response, the dose may be increased up to 20 mg once daily after at least one week of treatment
Elderly patients: Start with 5 mg daily and adjust gradually
Administration: Take at the same time each day to maintain steady drug levels
Duration: Continued treatment is often required for 6–12 months or longer, depending on patient response
MAO inhibitors: Concomitant use can lead to serotonin syndrome; avoid combination
Other serotonergic drugs: Increased risk of serotonin syndrome when combined with triptans, SNRIs, or St. John’s Wort
CYP3A4/CYP2C19 inhibitors (e.g., omeprazole, fluconazole) may increase escitalopram levels
Warfarin: Escitalopram may increase INR; monitor anticoagulation
NSAIDs or aspirin: Increased risk of bleeding
Seropam is contraindicated in patients with:
Hypersensitivity to Escitalopram or citalopram
Concomitant use of MAO inhibitors or within 14 days of stopping MAO inhibitors
History of serotonin syndrome
Seropam is generally well tolerated. Common side effects include:
Nausea, diarrhea, constipation
Headache, dizziness, or fatigue
Insomnia or somnolence
Sexual dysfunction (decreased libido, delayed ejaculation)
Rare: QT prolongation, serotonin syndrome, hyponatremia
Monitor for suicidal thoughts, especially in adolescents and young adults
Gradual dose reduction is recommended when discontinuing to avoid withdrawal symptoms
Caution in patients with liver or kidney impairment
May cause hyponatremia or electrolyte imbalance, particularly in elderly patients
Use only if the potential benefit outweighs the risk; safety during pregnancy is not fully established
Escitalopram is excreted in breast milk; monitor infants if the mother is treated during lactation
Store below 30°C, protected from light and moisture
Keep out of reach of children
