Resitone Tablet 20 mg + 50 mg is a combination diuretic formulation containing Furosemide 20 mg and Spironolactone 50 mg, designed to manage fluid retention associated with various cardiovascular and renal conditions. By combining a loop diuretic (furosemide) with a potassium-sparing diuretic (spironolactone), Resitone provides potent diuretic effects while minimizing potassium loss, offering a balanced approach to fluid and electrolyte management.
This dual-action therapy is particularly useful in patients with edema related to congestive heart failure, liver cirrhosis, nephrotic syndrome, or other conditions causing fluid overload. Resitone helps reduce swelling, lower blood pressure, and prevent complications associated with excessive fluid accumulation.

Diuretic Combination (Loop + Potassium-Sparing)
Each tablet contains:
Furosemide 20 mg – Loop diuretic
Spironolactone 50 mg – Potassium-sparing diuretic
Resitone Tablet is indicated for:
Edema Management: Associated with congestive heart failure, liver cirrhosis, or nephrotic syndrome
Hypertension: Especially in patients requiring diuretic therapy
Prevention of Hypokalemia: When diuretic therapy is likely to cause potassium depletion
Furosemide acts on the ascending loop of Henle in the kidney, inhibiting sodium, chloride, and water reabsorption, which leads to a potent diuretic effect. It is effective in mobilizing edema and reducing fluid overload rapidly.
Spironolactone is an aldosterone antagonist that acts on the distal renal tubules, inhibiting sodium reabsorption and potassium excretion. This potassium-sparing effect counteracts the potassium loss associated with furosemide, reducing the risk of hypokalemia.
Together, the combination achieves effective diuresis with better electrolyte balance, making it suitable for long-term management of edema and hypertension.
Furosemide: Promotes excretion of sodium, chloride, and water by inhibiting the loop of Henle
Spironolactone: Blocks aldosterone receptors, preventing potassium loss and sodium retention
Combination Effect: Reduces edema and blood pressure while maintaining potassium homeostasis
The dosage of Resitone Tablet must be individualized based on the severity of edema, renal function, and patient response.
Usual Starting Dose: One tablet once daily or as directed by the physician
Adjustments: Dose can be increased gradually according to clinical response.
Should be taken with food to reduce gastrointestinal irritation.
Monitoring: Regular monitoring of electrolytes, kidney function, and blood pressure is recommended during therapy.
ACE inhibitors, ARBs, or potassium supplements: May increase the risk of hyperkalemia due to spironolactone
NSAIDs: May reduce diuretic efficacy and increase the risk of renal impairment
Other antihypertensives: May potentiate hypotensive effects
Lithium: Risk of lithium toxicity may increase with diuretics
Known hypersensitivity to furosemide, spironolactone, or any excipients
Hyperkalemia or severe renal impairment
Anuria
Addison’s disease
Pregnancy and breastfeeding (use only if clearly necessary and under medical supervision)
Common adverse effects may include:
Dizziness or lightheadedness
Headache
Gastrointestinal disturbances (nausea, vomiting)
Electrolyte imbalances (hyperkalemia, hyponatremia)
Fatigue or muscle cramps
Rare side effects: rash, gynecomastia (from spironolactone), hypotension, or kidney dysfunction
Monitor serum electrolytes and renal function regularly
Use caution in patients with liver dysfunction or heart failure
Avoid abrupt discontinuation in long-term therapy
Patients should be advised to report symptoms such as muscle weakness, palpitations, or severe dizziness
Store in a cool, dry place below 30°C.
Keep out of reach of children.
