Vaxitet-IG Injection 3000 IU/ml is a Tetanus Antitoxin (Equine) used for passive immunization against tetanus infection. It provides immediate but temporary protection by neutralizing tetanus toxin in individuals at risk of developing tetanus due to injury, burns, or other conditions where the risk of infection is high. Vaxitet-IG is derived from horse serum and contains high titers of antibodies against the tetanus toxin, making it a critical intervention for post-exposure prophylaxis.

Vaxitet-IG Injection 3000 IU/ml is indicated for:
Passive immunization against tetanus in individuals at risk following traumatic injuries, lacerations, or burns
Prophylaxis in unvaccinated or partially vaccinated individuals with uncertain or incomplete tetanus immunization history
Post-exposure treatment in wounds contaminated with soil, dirt, or foreign bodies, particularly in cases of puncture or avulsion injuries
Adjunctive therapy in combination with active tetanus vaccination for rapid protection
Immunoglobulins
Antitoxins / Passive Immunization Agents
Vaxitet-IG provides immediate passive immunity against tetanus. The equine-derived antibodies bind and neutralize tetanus toxin before it enters the nervous system, preventing the toxin from interfering with neurotransmission and causing the characteristic muscle rigidity and spasms associated with tetanus. The protection is short-term, typically lasting a few weeks, until the patient’s own immune system can respond following active immunization.
Adults and Children:
Standard prophylactic dose: 3000 IU/ml, administered intramuscularly
For high-risk wounds, the dose may be administered in multiple sites to optimize absorption
Deep or extensive wounds may require additional dosing according to clinical assessment
Administration Instructions:
Inject intramuscularly; do not administer intravenously
Avoid intradermal or subcutaneous injection for optimal absorption
Administer as soon as possible after exposure
The injection site should be rotated if repeated doses are required
Precautions During Administration:
Inspect the vial for particulate matter and discoloration before use
Do not use if the solution is cloudy, contains precipitates, or is discolored
Known hypersensitivity to equine proteins or any component of the preparation
History of severe allergic reaction to horse serum
Common side effects may include:
Local pain, redness, or swelling at the injection site
Mild fever or malaise
Allergic reactions such as urticaria, rash, or itching
Rare but serious adverse effects:
Anaphylaxis or serum sickness, which may present with fever, joint pain, rash, and swelling
Hypotension or respiratory distress in severe hypersensitivity cases
Patients with known equine serum allergy should be pre-medicated with antihistamines if deemed necessary
Emergency measures should be available in case of anaphylactic reaction
Use with caution in patients with a history of asthma or other severe allergies
Should be administered alongside active tetanus vaccination for long-term immunity
There is limited data on use during pregnancy; the injection may be used if clearly indicated, as tetanus poses significant risk to both mother and fetus
Safety during lactation is not well established; use only if necessary and monitor the infant
Store at 2°C to 8°C (refrigerated)
Protect from light
Do not freeze
Keep out of reach of children
Vaxitet-IG provides passive immunization by supplying ready-made antibodies against tetanus toxin. These antibodies neutralize the toxin in circulation, preventing it from binding to nerve endings and causing neuromuscular symptoms. Because this is passive immunity, it acts immediately but is temporary, and patients should receive active immunization to develop long-term protection.
