Indications

Vaptan Tablet is indicated for:

• Hyponatremia (low blood sodium levels) associated with SIADH
• Fluid overload conditions in heart failure (as prescribed)
• Autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD)
• Conditions involving excess antidiuretic hormone (ADH) activity

Mechanism of Action

Tolvaptan selectively blocks vasopressin V2 receptors in the kidney collecting ducts. This prevents the action of antidiuretic hormone (ADH), leading to increased excretion of free water (aquaresis) without significant loss of sodium or potassium. This helps correct dilutional hyponatremia and reduce fluid retention.
