Amoxicillin works by inhibiting the synthesis of bacterial cell walls, leading to the destruction of susceptible bacteria. However, some bacteria produce beta-lactamase enzymes that can inactivate amoxicillin. Clavulanic acid protects amoxicillin by inhibiting these enzymes, thereby restoring and enhancing its antibacterial activity. This synergistic action broadens the spectrum of efficacy against resistant bacterial strains.

Tyclav Suspension is indicated for the treatment of infections caused by susceptible organisms, including:
Upper respiratory tract infections such as tonsillitis, pharyngitis, and sinusitis
Lower respiratory tract infections including bronchitis and pneumonia
Ear infections such as acute otitis media
Urinary tract infections
Skin and soft tissue infections
Dental infections
The dosage of Tyclav Suspension should be determined by a physician based on the child’s age, body weight, severity of infection, and renal function. The suspension should be shaken well before each use to ensure uniform distribution of the active ingredients. It is usually administered at evenly spaced intervals to maintain effective antibiotic levels in the body.
This suspension formulation is particularly suitable for infants and children due to its palatable taste and ease of administration. Accurate dosing using a measuring cup or oral syringe is recommended to ensure therapeutic effectiveness and reduce the risk of underdosing or overdosing.
Tyclav Suspension should not be used in patients with a known allergy to penicillins or beta-lactam antibiotics.
Caution is advised in patients with a history of liver dysfunction or severe renal impairment.
Prolonged use may result in superinfection with non-susceptible organisms.
Common side effects may include mild gastrointestinal disturbances such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, or abdominal discomfort. These effects are generally transient and resolve after completion of therapy. If severe allergic reactions or persistent side effects occur, medical attention should be sought immediately.
Store the dry powder in a cool, dry place. After reconstitution, the suspension should be kept refrigerated and used within the period specified by the manufacturer. Do not freeze.
