Pharmacology

Povidone Iodine is a complex of iodine with polyvinylpyrrolidone that slowly releases free iodine when applied to tissues. Free iodine penetrates microbial cell walls and rapidly inactivates essential proteins and enzymes, leading to cell death. It is effective against a wide range of pathogens including bacteria (Gram-positive and Gram-negative), fungi, viruses, protozoa, and spores.
In ophthalmic use, povidone iodine provides rapid and sustained antimicrobial action while being well tolerated by ocular tissues when used appropriately.

Indications

Tearex Eye Drop 5% v/v is indicated for:

• Pre-operative antisepsis of the eye before ophthalmic surgery
