Composition

Each tablet contains:

• Sulfasalazine 500 mg

Indications

Sulfazin Tablet is indicated for:

• Ulcerative colitis (acute attacks and maintenance therapy)
• Crohn’s disease (in selected cases)
• Rheumatoid arthritis (as disease-modifying therapy)
• Inflammatory bowel disease–associated joint pain
• Maintenance therapy to prevent relapse of ulcerative colitis

Mechanism of Action

Sulfasalazine is broken down in the intestine into two active components: sulfapyridine and 5-aminosalicylic acid (5-ASA). The 5-ASA component acts locally in the colon to reduce inflammation by inhibiting inflammatory mediators such as prostaglandins and leukotrienes. The sulfapyridine component contributes to systemic anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory effects, especially in rheumatoid arthritis.

Dosage & Administration

• Dosage should be determined by a physician based on condition severity
• Usually taken in divided doses after meals to reduce gastric irritation
• Tablets should be swallowed with water
• Treatment may be long-term depending on disease condition
• Regular monitoring of blood counts and liver function is recommended

Precautions
