Indications

Progut Capsule is indicated for:

• Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD)
• Erosive esophagitis
• Peptic ulcer disease (gastric and duodenal ulcers)
• Zollinger-Ellison syndrome
• Dyspepsia due to acid hypersecretion
• Prevention of NSAID-induced gastric ulcers (as prescribed)

Mechanism of Action

Esomeprazole is the S-isomer of omeprazole and works by selectively and irreversibly inhibiting the hydrogen-potassium ATPase enzyme (proton pump) in gastric parietal cells. This blocks the final step of acid secretion, resulting in prolonged suppression of gastric acid and allowing healing of acid-related damage in the gastrointestinal tract.

Dosage and Administration

• Usually taken once daily before meals, preferably in the morning.
