Dosage Form: Powder for injection
Route of Administration: Intravenous or Intramuscular (after reconstitution)
Third-Generation Cephalosporin Antibiotic
Ceftazidime is a bactericidal antibiotic that acts by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis. It binds to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs), leading to weakening of the bacterial cell wall and eventual cell lysis. Ceftazidime shows strong resistance to many beta-lactamases and demonstrates excellent activity against Gram-negative organisms, including Pseudomonas aeruginosa. After parenteral administration, it achieves therapeutic concentrations in various body tissues and fluids, including the lungs, urinary tract, skin, bone, and cerebrospinal fluid in inflamed meninges.
Maxidim Injection 250 mg/vial is indicated for the treatment of infections caused by susceptible organisms, including:
Lower and upper respiratory tract infections
Urinary tract infections
Skin and soft tissue infections
Bone and joint infections
Intra-abdominal infections
Septicemia
Meningitis
Infections in immunocompromised patients
It may also be used for empirical therapy in severe infections before the causative organism is identified.
Dosage depends on the type and severity of infection, patient age, body weight, and renal function.
Administered by intravenous or intramuscular injection after proper reconstitution
Dose adjustments are required in patients with renal impairment
Duration of therapy should be determined by the treating physician
Administration should be carried out by qualified healthcare professionals only.
Broad-spectrum antibacterial activity
Highly effective against Gram-negative pathogens, including Pseudomonas aeruginosa
