Losucon M Tablet 2 mg+500 mg is a fixed-dose combination of Glimepiride and Metformin, two well-established oral antidiabetic agents used for the management of Type II diabetes mellitus (non-insulin dependent diabetes). This combination is designed for patients whose blood glucose levels are not adequately controlled with diet, exercise, or monotherapy alone. By targeting different mechanisms involved in glucose regulation, Losucon M Tablet helps achieve effective and sustained glycaemic control.

Each tablet contains:
Glimepiride 2 mg
Metformin 500 mg
Sulfonylurea + Biguanide (Oral Antidiabetic Combination)
Losucon M Tablet is indicated for:
Management of Type II diabetes mellitus as an adjunct to diet and exercise
Patients inadequately controlled on metformin or sulfonylurea monotherapy
Patients requiring combination therapy to achieve optimal blood glucose control
This combination is particularly beneficial in patients with insulin resistance and impaired insulin secretion.
Glimepiride is a sulfonylurea that lowers blood glucose by stimulating insulin release from functioning pancreatic beta cells. It also improves peripheral insulin sensitivity, enhancing glucose uptake by tissues.
Metformin is a biguanide that primarily reduces hepatic glucose production and decreases intestinal absorption of glucose. It also improves insulin sensitivity, leading to better peripheral glucose utilization without causing significant hypoglycaemia when used alone.
The complementary mechanisms of action of glimepiride and metformin result in improved glycaemic control while addressing both insulin resistance and insulin deficiency.
The dosage of Losucon M Tablet should be individualized based on the patient’s blood glucose levels, treatment response, and tolerability.
It is usually taken once or twice daily with meals to reduce gastrointestinal side effects.
Tablets should be swallowed whole with water and not crushed or chewed.
Regular monitoring of blood glucose is recommended to guide dose adjustments.
Dose changes should be made gradually under medical supervision to minimize the risk of hypoglycaemia or gastrointestinal intolerance.
Dual mechanism for effective blood glucose control
Improves insulin secretion and insulin sensitivity
Helps reduce fasting and postprandial blood glucose levels
Convenient fixed-dose combination improves patient compliance
Risk of hypoglycaemia, especially with irregular meals or excessive physical activity
Use with caution in elderly patients and those with renal or hepatic impairment
Temporary discontinuation may be required during surgery or radiological procedures involving contrast media
Alcohol intake should be avoided due to increased risk of lactic acidosis
Common side effects may include hypoglycaemia, nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, abdominal discomfort, dizziness, headache, and weakness. Rare but serious adverse effects include lactic acidosis, particularly in patients with renal dysfunction.
Losucon M Tablet is not recommended during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Insulin therapy is preferred for blood glucose control in these patients.
Store below 30°C in a cool, dry place. Protect from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
