Lamogin 50 mg Tablet is a versatile primary anti-epileptic medication used for the management of seizures and bipolar disorder in adults and children. It is particularly effective in partial-onset seizures, primary generalized tonic-clonic seizures, and generalized seizures associated with Lennox-Gastaut syndrome. Additionally, Lamogin 50 mg is indicated for the treatment of bipolar disorder in adults. It functions by stabilizing neuronal membranes and regulating neurotransmitter release, thereby controlling hyperexcitable neurons.

Primary anti-epileptic drugs
Lamogin 50 mg is indicated for:
Epilepsy – Combination Therapy:
Patients aged 2 years and older
Partial-onset seizures
Primary generalized tonic-clonic seizures
Generalized seizures associated with Lennox-Gastaut syndrome
Epilepsy – Monotherapy:
Patients aged 16 years and older
Bipolar Disorder:
Adults as monotherapy or adjunctive therapy
Lamogin 50 mg works primarily by inhibiting voltage-sensitive sodium channels, which stabilizes neuronal membranes. This action reduces the presynaptic release of excitatory neurotransmitters such as glutamate and aspartate, thereby controlling epileptic seizures and stabilizing mood in bipolar disorder. It also exhibits weak interactions with multiple neurotransmitter receptors, including serotonin, dopamine, GABA, histamine, adrenergic, and opioid receptors, which may contribute to its broader clinical effects.
Start: 25 mg once daily for 14 days
Increase: 50 mg once daily for next 14 days
Titrate: Increase by 50 mg/day every 7–14 days
Maintenance: 225–375 mg/day in 1–2 divided doses
Adults & children >12 years: 25 mg alternate days → 25 mg daily → titrate 25–50 mg/day
Children 2–12 years: 150 mcg/kg/day → 300 mcg/kg/day → titrate to 1–3 mg/kg/day
Adults & children >12 years: 50 mg daily → 50 mg twice daily → titrate 100 mg/day increments
Children 2–12 years: 600 mcg/kg/day → 1.2 mg/kg/day → titrate to 5–15 mg/kg/day (max 400 mg/day)
Monotherapy without Valproate: Start 25 mg → 50 mg → 100 mg → maintenance 200 mg daily
With Valproate: Start 25 mg alternate days → 25 mg → 50 mg → maintenance 100 mg daily
With enzyme-inducing drugs: Titrate to 200 mg twice daily
Administration Tips:
Take orally, with or without food.
Gradual titration reduces risk of side effects.
For intravenous use, follow prescribed protocols in hospital settings.
Oral contraceptives: may reduce efficacy
Anticonvulsants: Carbamazepine, Phenytoin, Phenobarbital, Primidone
Other drugs: Levetiracetam, Lithium, Lopinavir/ritonavir, Olanzapine, Pregabalin
Monitor for additive CNS effects and PR interval prolongation
Hypersensitivity to Lamogin or its ingredients
History of rash, angioedema, acute urticaria, or mucosal ulceration
Common adverse effects include:
Dizziness, tremor, headache, blurred vision
Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain
Sleepiness, insomnia, fatigue, lack of coordination
Rash, fever, infections, back pain
Serious but rare: suicidal ideation, blood dyscrasias, aseptic meningitis, severe skin reactions
Pregnancy Category C: Use only if benefits outweigh risks
Present in breast milk; nursing mothers should consult a physician
Monitor for suicidal behavior, serious skin rashes, blood dyscrasias, and aseptic meningitis
Gradual withdrawal recommended to prevent seizure exacerbation
Use caution in patients with hepatic or renal impairment
Ataxia, nystagmus, seizures, decreased consciousness
Coma and intraventricular conduction delay in severe cases
Store below 30°C in a dry, light-protected place
Keep out of reach of children
Hepatic impairment: Dose adjustments required
Renal impairment: Reduced maintenance doses may be effective
Pediatric safety: Not established for children under 2 years for epilepsy or under 10 years for bipolar disorder
Inhibits voltage-sensitive sodium channels
Stabilizes neuronal membranes
Modulates presynaptic release of excitatory neurotransmitters
Weak interactions with multiple neurotransmitter receptors may contribute to anticonvulsant and mood-stabilizing effects.
