Kytido Tablet 50 mg contains Itopride Hydrochloride, a gastroprokinetic agent that facilitates gastrointestinal motility and relieves symptoms associated with functional dyspepsia and other upper gastrointestinal disorders. By combining prokinetic and anti-acetylcholinesterase activity, Itopride accelerates gastric emptying, enhances esophageal clearance, and promotes coordinated intestinal contractions, providing relief from bloating, early satiety, nausea, and postprandial fullness. Kytido is suitable for adult patients experiencing functional dyspepsia, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) with motility disorders, and other related gastrointestinal conditions.

Gastroprokinetic Agent
Kytido Tablet 50 mg is indicated for the management of:
Functional dyspepsia, including symptoms of bloating, nausea, fullness, and epigastric discomfort
Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) associated with delayed gastric emptying
Upper gastrointestinal motility disorders, including post-operative gastric stasis
Relief of symptoms caused by slowed gastric emptying, such as early satiety and postprandial heaviness
Itopride improves gastrointestinal transit without altering gastric acid secretion, making it suitable for long-term use in appropriate patients.
Itopride is a dual-action gastroprokinetic agent. Its primary mechanisms include:
Dopamine D2 Receptor Antagonism: By blocking inhibitory dopamine receptors in the gastrointestinal tract, Itopride enhances acetylcholine release, which stimulates smooth muscle contraction and promotes coordinated peristalsis.
Acetylcholinesterase Inhibition: Itopride inhibits the breakdown of acetylcholine, increasing its availability at the neuromuscular junction and further enhancing gastrointestinal motility.
Itopride exhibits a high safety profile as it does not readily cross the blood-brain barrier, reducing the risk of central nervous system side effects. It improves gastric emptying, increases esophageal motility, and reduces gastric stasis, which helps relieve dyspeptic symptoms effectively.
Adults:
The recommended dose of Kytido Tablet is 50 mg orally three times daily before meals.
Doses should be spaced evenly throughout the day to optimize gastric motility and symptom relief.
Special Populations:
Use in elderly patients is generally well tolerated, but caution is advised for those with renal or hepatic impairment.
Pediatric use is not well established and should follow a physician’s guidance.
Kytido Tablet should be swallowed whole with water and not crushed or chewed to maintain optimal absorption and efficacy.
Known hypersensitivity to Itopride or any component of the formulation
Patients with mechanical obstruction of the gastrointestinal tract or gastrointestinal hemorrhage
History of pheochromocytoma or uncontrolled hypertension
Kytido is generally well tolerated. Reported adverse effects are infrequent and usually mild, including:
Gastrointestinal disturbances such as diarrhea, abdominal pain, or nausea
Headache or dizziness
Rare cases of elevated prolactin levels with long-term use
Patients should report any unusual or persistent symptoms to their physician promptly.

Use with caution in patients with moderate to severe hepatic impairment
Monitor patients with renal dysfunction, as dosage adjustment may be necessary
Long-term use should be periodically evaluated to assess efficacy and safety
Concomitant use with other dopamine antagonists should be done under medical supervision
Itopride may interact with drugs that affect dopamine pathways or acetylcholine metabolism.
Concurrent use with metoclopramide or other prokinetic agents may increase additive effects.
No major hazardous interactions have been commonly reported, but it is advisable to inform the physician about all concomitant medications.
Store in a cool, dry place below 30°C, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date mentioned on the package.
Itopride enhances gastrointestinal motility by increasing acetylcholine availability and antagonizing inhibitory dopamine D2 receptors. This dual mechanism accelerates gastric emptying, improves esophageal clearance, and alleviates dyspeptic symptoms without affecting gastric acid secretion.
