Florium Tablet 10 mg is indicated for the following conditions:
Prophylaxis of migraine (reduces frequency, duration, and intensity of attacks)
Treatment of vestibular disorders such as vertigo
Management of symptoms including dizziness, nausea, vomiting, and balance disturbances associated with vestibular dysfunction
Calcium Channel Blocker / Antimigraine Agent
Flunarizine acts primarily by blocking calcium influx through voltage-dependent calcium channels in neurons. By limiting excessive calcium entry into cells, it stabilizes neuronal excitability and improves cerebral blood flow. This mechanism plays a significant role in preventing migraine attacks. Additionally, its antihistaminic action contributes to its effectiveness in controlling vestibular symptoms such as vertigo and motion-related nausea. Flunarizine also exhibits mild sedative properties, which may be beneficial in patients experiencing associated sleep disturbances.
Adults: Typically 5–10 mg once daily, preferably in the evening
Migraine Prophylaxis: Initial dose is often 10 mg daily, which may be reduced to 5 mg based on response and tolerability
Elderly: Recommended starting dose is 5 mg daily
Duration of Treatment: Long-term use should be periodically evaluated by a physician to minimize the risk of adverse effects
Dosage adjustments should always be made under medical supervision.
Florium Tablet 10 mg may enhance the sedative effects of alcohol, hypnotics, tranquilizers, and other central nervous system depressants. Concomitant use with antiepileptic drugs may require careful monitoring. Patients should inform their healthcare provider of all medications they are taking before starting Flunarizine.
Florium Tablet 10 mg is contraindicated in patients with:
Known hypersensitivity to flunarizine or any component of the formulation
History of depressive illness or current depression
Parkinson’s disease or other extrapyramidal disorders
Commonly reported side effects include:
Drowsiness or fatigue
Increased appetite and weight gain
Dry mouth
Constipation
Long-term use may be associated with mood changes, including depressive symptoms, and extrapyramidal effects, especially in elderly patients.
The safety of flunarizine during pregnancy has not been fully established. Florium Tablet 10 mg should be used during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus. Caution is advised when administered to breastfeeding mothers, as it may be excreted in breast milk.
Florium Tablet 10 mg should be used with caution in patients with a history of depression, Parkinsonism, or other movement disorders. Regular monitoring is recommended during prolonged therapy to detect early signs of depression or motor impairment.
Elderly: Increased susceptibility to extrapyramidal symptoms; lower doses are recommended
Hepatic Impairment: Use with caution; dose adjustment may be necessary.
