Ferimax Injection 50 mg/2.5 ml contains Iron Sucrose, a parenteral iron preparation used for the treatment of iron deficiency anemia in patients who cannot tolerate or respond adequately to oral iron therapy. Iron is an essential component of hemoglobin, myoglobin, and various enzymes involved in oxygen transport and energy metabolism. Ferimax provides a reliable and rapid means of restoring iron stores, supporting erythropoiesis, and improving hemoglobin levels in patients with iron deficiency.
This injection is particularly useful in chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients, pregnant women with severe anemia, and individuals with malabsorption syndromes or gastrointestinal conditions that prevent effective oral iron absorption. Ferimax is administered under medical supervision, ensuring controlled dosing and monitoring for adverse reactions.

Parenteral Iron Preparation / Hematinics
Ferimax Injection 50 mg/2.5 ml is indicated for:
Iron deficiency anemia in adults and pediatric patients who cannot tolerate oral iron
Chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients receiving erythropoiesis-stimulating agents (ESAs)
Pregnancy-associated anemia when oral iron is insufficient or poorly tolerated
Patients with malabsorption syndromes or gastrointestinal disorders that prevent adequate oral iron absorption
Rapid replenishment of iron stores prior to elective surgery in anemic patients
Each 2.5 ml ampoule contains:
Iron Sucrose 50 mg
Iron Sucrose is a complex of polynuclear iron (III)-hydroxide in sucrose, which allows controlled release of iron into the bloodstream. Once administered intravenously, iron sucrose is taken up by the reticuloendothelial system and gradually released to transferrin for transport to the bone marrow. This facilitates hemoglobin synthesis and replenishment of iron stores. Unlike oral iron, intravenous iron bypasses gastrointestinal absorption, reducing gastrointestinal side effects and ensuring rapid therapeutic response.
Ferimax supplies bioavailable iron directly into circulation, which is then incorporated into hemoglobin and myoglobin. Iron is also utilized for enzymatic reactions critical for cellular metabolism. By restoring iron levels, Ferimax improves oxygen-carrying capacity, alleviates symptoms of anemia such as fatigue and weakness, and enhances overall functional capacity.
Adults: Typically, 100–200 mg of iron sucrose per session, administered intravenously over 15–60 minutes. Doses may be repeated according to hemoglobin levels and iron deficit.
Pediatric Patients: Dose is calculated based on body weight (mg/kg) and total iron requirement.
Chronic Kidney Disease: Administer according to the patient’s hemoglobin response and concurrent ESA therapy.
Important: Administer intravenously only under medical supervision. Monitor for hypersensitivity or hypotensive reactions during infusion.

May interact with oral iron supplements; concurrent administration is not recommended.
Absorption of some antibiotics (tetracyclines, quinolones) may be affected if taken orally near the time of iron therapy.
Ferimax Injection is contraindicated in patients with:
Known hypersensitivity to iron sucrose or any component of the formulation
Hemochromatosis or other iron overload conditions
Severe anemia not due to iron deficiency
Ferimax is generally well tolerated. Common side effects include:
Mild hypotension
Headache, dizziness
Nausea, vomiting
Injection site reactions (pain, burning, or irritation)
Rare but serious reactions include:
Anaphylactic or hypersensitivity reactions
Chest pain or palpitations
Iron sucrose may be used during pregnancy when indicated, as iron deficiency anemia can adversely affect both mother and fetus. Safety during lactation is acceptable, as minimal iron passes into breast milk, but medical supervision is recommended.
Administer only by trained healthcare professionals.
Monitor for allergic reactions during and after infusion.
Use caution in patients with liver disease, cardiovascular disorders, or infection.
Store below 30°C in a dry place, protected from light. Keep out of reach of children. Do not freeze.
