Ferimax Injection 100 mg/5 ml is a parenteral iron preparation containing Iron Sucrose, designed to treat iron deficiency and iron deficiency anemia when oral iron therapy is ineffective, poorly tolerated, or contraindicated. It is particularly useful in patients requiring rapid replenishment of iron stores, such as those with chronic kidney disease, significant blood loss, malabsorption syndromes, or anemia associated with pregnancy.
Iron is a crucial component of hemoglobin, myoglobin, and various enzymes involved in oxygen transport and energy metabolism. Iron deficiency can lead to fatigue, pallor, reduced exercise tolerance, and cognitive impairment. Ferimax Injection bypasses the gastrointestinal tract, allowing immediate availability of iron for hemoglobin synthesis and restoration of iron stores, thereby improving patient symptoms and quality of life.

Parenteral Iron Preparations
Ferimax Injection 100 mg/5 ml is indicated for the treatment of iron deficiency and iron deficiency anemia in the following conditions:
Chronic kidney disease, including patients on hemodialysis
Patients who cannot tolerate oral iron or in whom oral iron is ineffective
Rapid correction of iron deficiency anemia
Pregnancy and postpartum anemia (when oral therapy is unsuitable)
Anemia due to chronic blood loss or malabsorption
Iron deficiency in patients preparing for major surgery
Iron Sucrose is a stable iron–carbohydrate complex that delivers iron in a controlled and safe manner. Following intravenous administration, iron dissociates from the sucrose complex and binds to transferrin in the plasma. Transferrin transports iron to the bone marrow and other tissues where it is incorporated into hemoglobin and stored as ferritin.
Compared to other intravenous iron formulations, Iron Sucrose has a lower risk of serious hypersensitivity reactions and allows multiple doses to be administered safely over a treatment course.
Administered intravenously by slow injection or infusion under medical supervision.
Dosage and frequency are determined based on the patient’s iron deficit, body weight, and hemoglobin levels.
Avoid intramuscular administration due to tissue irritation and poor absorption.
Monitor hemoglobin, ferritin, and transferrin saturation during therapy to assess response and adjust dosing if needed.
Hypersensitivity to Iron Sucrose or any component of the formulation
Iron overload disorders such as hemochromatosis
Anemia not caused by iron deficiency
Administer under medical supervision with access to facilities for treating hypersensitivity reactions
Use caution in patients with liver disease or active infection
Monitor vital signs during infusion, particularly in patients with cardiovascular disease
Avoid rapid administration to reduce the risk of hypotension
Ferimax Injection is generally well tolerated. Adverse effects may include:
Hypotension or transient blood pressure changes
Nausea, vomiting, or abdominal discomfort
Headache, dizziness, or fatigue
Mild local reactions at the injection site
Rarely, hypersensitivity reactions including rash, pruritus, or anaphylaxis
Can be administered during pregnancy if clinically indicated
Considered safe in lactating mothers, as minimal iron is excreted into breast milk
Store below 30°C
Protect from light
Do not freeze
Keep out of reach of children
