Opton 20 mg contains Esomeprazole, a proton pump inhibitor that effectively suppresses gastric acid secretion. It is widely prescribed for the treatment and long-term management of acid-related gastrointestinal disorders. By providing sustained acid control, Opton 20 mg helps relieve symptoms, promotes healing of damaged mucosa, and prevents recurrence of acid-mediated conditions.

Esomeprazole selectively inhibits the H⁺/K⁺-ATPase enzyme in gastric parietal cells, blocking the final step of acid production. As the S-isomer of omeprazole, it provides improved bioavailability and more consistent acid suppression compared to conventional proton pump inhibitors.
Esomeprazole is primarily metabolized by CYP2C19 and CYP3A4 enzymes. It may affect the absorption of drugs dependent on gastric pH, such as ketoconazole, iron salts, and digoxin. Caution is advised when used with diazepam and other CYP2C19 substrates.
