Indications

Fenofex 60 mg is indicated for:

Pharmacology

Fexofenadine is a selective peripheral H1-receptor antagonist. After oral administration, it is rapidly absorbed, reaching peak plasma concentrations within 2–3 hours. Due to its inability to cross the blood-brain barrier, Fenofex 60 mg does not cause significant central nervous system effects such as sedation. It does not undergo hepatic biotransformation, reducing the risk of metabolic drug interactions.

Mode of Action

Allergic reactions are mediated through histamine binding to H1 receptors. Fenofex acts as an inverse agonist at these receptors, stabilizing them in an inactive state and preventing downstream inflammatory effects such as itching, sneezing, and watery eyes. It has no clinically significant anticholinergic, antidopaminergic, antiserotonergic, sedative, or adrenergic blocking effects.

Dosage and Administration

Allergic Rhinitis and Chronic Idiopathic Urticaria

Adults and children ≥12 years:

• 60 mg twice daily

• Or 120 mg once daily

• Or 180 mg once daily

Renal impairment:

• 60 mg once daily

Dosage adjustments are required for pediatric patients and those with renal impairment, as advised by a physician.

Drug Interactions

• Co-administration with erythromycin or ketoconazole may increase plasma levels of fexofenadine without clinical significance

• No interaction observed with omeprazole

• Antacids containing aluminum or magnesium hydroxide may reduce absorption; a 2-hour interval is recommended

Contraindications

• Known hypersensitivity to fexofenadine or any component of the formulation
