Famomax Suspension 40 mg/5 ml contains Famotidine, a selective histamine H₂-receptor antagonist that effectively reduces gastric acid secretion. This liquid formulation is especially useful for children, elderly patients, and individuals who have difficulty swallowing tablets. By lowering both basal and stimulated acid output, Famomax Suspension provides effective relief from acid-related gastrointestinal disorders such as peptic ulcer disease and gastroesophageal reflux.
The suspension form allows accurate dose adjustment and rapid onset of action, making it suitable for both short-term symptom relief and longer-term management under medical supervision. Famomax Suspension is well tolerated and widely used in pediatric as well as adult clinical practice.

Each 5 ml suspension contains:
Famotidine 40 mg
Therapeutic Class:
H₂-receptor antagonist (Anti-ulcerant)
Famomax Suspension 40 mg/5 ml is indicated for the treatment and prevention of acid-related disorders, including:
Duodenal ulcer
Benign gastric ulcer
Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD)
Reflux esophagitis
Zollinger–Ellison syndrome and other pathological hypersecretory conditions
Prevention of ulcer recurrence
It is particularly useful in pediatric patients and adults who require flexible dosing.
Famotidine works by competitively inhibiting histamine at H₂-receptors of the gastric parietal cells. This action results in a significant reduction in gastric acid secretion, both during fasting and after meals. Reduced acid output lowers gastric irritation and allows damaged mucosa to heal effectively.
Famotidine has a relatively rapid onset and long duration of action. It does not significantly interfere with liver enzymes of the cytochrome P450 system, minimizing the risk of drug interactions. Unlike some acid-suppressing agents, it has no clinically significant effect on gastric emptying or intrinsic factor secretion.

Dosage should be individualized based on age, body weight, and clinical condition, as advised by a physician.
Adults:
20–40 mg once or twice daily, depending on severity
Children:
Dose is calculated according to body weight and clinical response
The suspension should be shaken well before use. It may be taken with or without food. In patients with renal impairment, dose adjustment is required.
Famomax Suspension has minimal drug interaction potential. However:
Antacids may reduce absorption if taken simultaneously
Drugs requiring acidic gastric pH for absorption may have reduced bioavailability
Patients should inform healthcare providers about all ongoing medications.
Famomax Suspension is contraindicated in patients with:
Known hypersensitivity to Famotidine or other H₂-receptor antagonists
Hypersensitivity to any excipients in the formulation
Famomax Suspension is generally well tolerated. Possible side effects include:
Headache
Dizziness
Constipation or diarrhea
Rarely, confusion (especially in elderly patients), rash, or mild elevations in liver enzymes may occur.
Famotidine should be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding only if clearly indicated and prescribed by a physician, when the expected benefit outweighs potential risks.
Underlying gastric malignancy should be ruled out before initiating therapy
Use cautiously in patients with renal impairment
Long-term use should be monitored by a healthcare professional
Store below 30°C, protected from light and moisture. Do not freeze. Keep out of reach of children.
