Cefuroxime Axetil: 500 mg
Clavulanic Acid: 125 mg
Cefuroxime Axetil is an orally administered prodrug that is converted into its active form, cefuroxime, after absorption. Cefuroxime inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis, resulting in bacterial cell death. Clavulanic Acid protects cefuroxime from degradation by beta-lactamase enzymes produced by resistant bacteria. The combination significantly broadens the antibacterial spectrum and improves treatment outcomes.
Famiclav Tablet 500 mg + 125 mg is indicated for the treatment of moderate to severe bacterial infections caused by susceptible and resistant organisms, including:
Upper and lower respiratory tract infections such as sinusitis, bronchitis, and pneumonia
Ear, nose, and throat infections including tonsillitis, pharyngitis, and otitis media
Urinary tract infections
Skin and soft tissue infections
Dental infections
Other community-acquired bacterial infections as prescribed by a physician
Adults: One tablet twice daily, or as directed by a healthcare professional
Tablets should be taken after meals to enhance absorption and minimize gastrointestinal side effects
The full course of treatment should be completed as prescribed, even if symptoms improve earlier, to reduce the risk of antibiotic resistance.
Broad-spectrum antibacterial coverage
Effective against beta-lactamase-producing organisms
Enhanced efficacy compared to single-antibiotic therapy
Suitable for moderate to severe infections
Convenient oral tablet form supports patient adherence
Famiclav Tablet is generally well tolerated when used appropriately. Common side effects may include nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, abdominal discomfort, headache, or mild skin reactions. These effects are usually transient.
Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to cephalosporins, clavulanic acid, or other beta-lactam antibiotics
Use with caution in patients with a history of severe penicillin allergy
Prolonged use may lead to superinfection with non-susceptible organisms
Use during pregnancy and breastfeeding only when clearly indicated by a physician
Antacids and acid-suppressing agents may reduce the absorption of Cefuroxime Axetil. An appropriate dosing interval should be maintained if these medications are used concurrently.
