Cefuroxime Axetil: 125 mg per 5 ml
Clavulanic Acid: 31.25 mg per 5 ml
Cefuroxime Axetil is a prodrug that is converted in the body into its active form, cefuroxime, after absorption. Cefuroxime acts by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis, leading to bacterial cell death. Clavulanic Acid prevents the breakdown of cefuroxime by inhibiting beta-lactamase enzymes produced by certain resistant bacteria. Together, they provide extended-spectrum antibacterial activity and improved clinical efficacy.
Famiclav Suspension is indicated for the treatment of mild to moderate bacterial infections caused by susceptible and beta-lactamase-producing organisms, including:
Upper and lower respiratory tract infections such as sinusitis, tonsillitis, bronchitis, and pneumonia
Ear, nose, and throat infections including otitis media and pharyngitis
Urinary tract infections
Skin and soft tissue infections
Dental and other localized bacterial infections
Other pediatric bacterial infections as prescribed by a physician
Children: Dosage is determined based on body weight, age, and severity of infection, as advised by a physician
The suspension should be taken after meals to enhance absorption and reduce gastrointestinal discomfort
Shake the bottle well before each use. Use a proper measuring device to ensure accurate dosing. Complete the full course of therapy as prescribed to prevent antibiotic resistance.
Broad-spectrum antibacterial activity
Effective against beta-lactamase-producing bacteria
Child-friendly oral suspension for easy administration
Enhanced efficacy compared to single-antibiotic formulations
Suitable for common pediatric infections
Famiclav Suspension is generally well tolerated when used under medical supervision. Possible side effects include diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, mild skin rash, or candidiasis. These effects are usually mild and temporary.
Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to cephalosporins or clavulanic acid
Use with caution in children with a history of penicillin allergy
Prolonged use may result in superinfection with non-susceptible organisms
Use only on medical advice in patients with liver or kidney impairment
Antacids and acid-suppressing agents may reduce the absorption of Cefuroxime Axetil. If co-administration is necessary, a suitable dosing interval should be maintained.
