Fluoroquinolone Antibiotic
Levofloxacin exerts its bactericidal effect by inhibiting two essential bacterial enzymes: DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV. These enzymes are required for DNA replication, transcription, repair, and recombination.
By blocking these enzymes, levofloxacin disrupts bacterial DNA synthesis, leading to rapid bacterial cell death. This mechanism provides strong activity against a wide range of susceptible organisms and helps ensure effective infection control.
