Dicephin Injection 500 mg/vial IV contains Ceftriaxone Sodium, a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic widely prescribed for the treatment of moderate to severe bacterial infections. It is administered via intravenous (IV) or intramuscular (IM) injection under the supervision of a qualified healthcare professional. Ceftriaxone is known for its broad-spectrum antibacterial coverage, high efficacy, and convenient dosing schedule due to its long half-life.
Ceftriaxone exerts its bactericidal effect by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis. It binds to specific penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs), preventing the formation of a stable cell wall and leading to the destruction of susceptible bacteria. It is effective against a wide range of Gram-positive and Gram-negative organisms, making it a reliable choice in both hospital and outpatient settings.
The 500 mg strength is suitable for mild to moderate infections and is commonly used in adults and pediatric patients according to clinical judgment and body weight considerations.
