Dicephin Injection 1 gm/vial IV contains Ceftriaxone Sodium, a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic indicated for the treatment of a wide variety of bacterial infections. It is administered via intravenous (IV) or intramuscular (IM) injection and should only be given by a qualified healthcare professional. Due to its broad-spectrum antibacterial coverage and prolonged half-life, ceftriaxone allows convenient once-daily dosing in many clinical situations.
Ceftriaxone works by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis. It binds to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs), disrupting the formation of the bacterial cell wall and resulting in cell death. It is effective against numerous Gram-positive and Gram-negative organisms, including many strains responsible for respiratory, urinary, abdominal, and systemic infections.
The 1 gm strength is commonly prescribed for moderate to severe infections and is widely used in both hospital and outpatient settings.
