Acos Tablet 250 mg contains Azithromycin Dihydrate, a broad-spectrum macrolide antibiotic used to treat a wide range of bacterial infections. It works by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis, thereby stopping the growth and spread of infection-causing bacteria. Azithromycin is well known for its convenient dosing schedule, high tissue penetration, and prolonged half-life, which allows for shorter treatment durations compared to many other antibiotics.
Acos Tablet 250 mg is prescribed for infections affecting the respiratory tract, skin, soft tissues, and certain sexually transmitted infections. It is effective against many Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, as well as atypical organisms.

Acos Tablet 250 mg is indicated for the treatment of mild to moderate infections caused by susceptible microorganisms, including:
Upper respiratory tract infections such as pharyngitis and tonsillitis
Lower respiratory tract infections including bronchitis and community-acquired pneumonia
Acute bacterial sinusitis
Skin and soft tissue infections
Ear infections (otitis media)
Certain sexually transmitted infections such as uncomplicated genital infections
It should only be used for infections proven or strongly suspected to be caused by susceptible bacteria to reduce the risk of antibiotic resistance.
Azithromycin belongs to the macrolide class of antibiotics. It exerts its antibacterial effect by binding to the 50S ribosomal subunit of susceptible bacteria, thereby inhibiting RNA-dependent protein synthesis. This action prevents bacterial growth and replication.
Azithromycin is rapidly absorbed after oral administration and distributes extensively into tissues, achieving higher concentrations in infected tissues than in plasma. Its long elimination half-life allows for once-daily dosing and shorter treatment courses, which can improve patient compliance.
The dosage of Acos Tablet 250 mg depends on the type and severity of the infection.
General Adult Dosage:
500 mg on the first day, followed by 250 mg once daily for the next four days

For sexually transmitted infections, a single 1 g dose may be prescribed as directed by a physician.
Tablets should be taken orally, with or without food. It is important to complete the full course of therapy, even if symptoms improve earlier.
Dosage adjustments may be required in specific populations; always follow the prescribing physician’s instructions.
