Indications

Xenogrow 5% is indicated for:

• Treatment of androgenic alopecia in males and females

• Stabilization of hair loss associated with androgenic alopecia

• Management of alopecia areata

Regular use helps promote hair regrowth and reduce ongoing hair fall.

Pharmacology

Xenogrow 5% works by enhancing blood circulation to the hair follicles, thereby increasing the supply of oxygen and essential nutrients. It also reduces the effect of androgen hormones on hair follicles, which play a key role in hereditary hair loss.

After topical application on intact scalp, approximately 1.4% of the applied dose is absorbed systemically. Absorption may increase with higher doses, frequent application, or compromised scalp barrier. Systemically absorbed drug is largely eliminated within four days after discontinuation and is mainly excreted through urine.

Mode of Action

• Widens scalp blood vessels to improve follicular nourishment

• Prolongs the growth (anagen) phase of hair follicles

• Reduces androgen-related follicular miniaturization

• Encourages visible hair regrowth with continued use

Dosage and Administration

• For external use only

• Apply when scalp and hair are clean and dry

• Apply 1 ml (approximately 7 sprays) twice daily at 12-hour intervals

• Start from the center of the affected area and spread evenly

• Maximum daily dose should not exceed 2 ml

Additional instructions:

• Allow the solution to remain on the scalp for at least 4 hours before washing

• Night application should be done 2–4 hours before bedtime

• Do not massage into the scalp

• Do not use a hair dryer to speed up drying

• Do not mix with hair oils

• Wash hands after application

Hair regrowth may become noticeable after 4 months or more of continuous use. To control hair fall, treatment should be continued for at least 45 days. Consistency is essential for optimal results.

Drug Interactions

• Avoid concurrent use with topical agents that disrupt the scalp barrier, such as tretinoin or dithranol

• There is a theoretical risk of enhanced orthostatic hypotension when used with peripheral vasodilators

Contraindications

Xenogrow 5% should not be used in:

• Patients with known cardiac abnormalities

• Children below 18 years of age

• Patients using occlusive dressings or other scalp medications

• Inflamed, infected, painful, sunburned, or psoriatic scalp conditions

Side Effects

Commonly reported side effects are mild and localized, including:

• Scalp irritation or dermatitis

• Unwanted hair growth in non-treated areas (hypertrichosis)

These effects occur in a small percentage of users.

Pregnancy and Lactation

Xenogrow 5% topical solution is contraindicated during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Precautions and Warnings

• Increased likelihood of scalp irritation may occur

• Discontinue use if irritation persists or worsens

• Do not apply to other body parts or ingest orally

• Overuse does not improve results and may increase adverse effects

Overdose Effects

Overdose from topical use is rare. Excessive application may increase systemic absorption, potentially leading to cardiovascular effects such as fluid retention or tachycardia. Management is supportive and symptomatic.
