Pharmacology:

Valsartan:
Valsartan is an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) that selectively inhibits the binding of angiotensin II to the AT1 receptor found in vascular smooth muscle and the adrenal gland. By blocking these receptors, Valsartan prevents vasoconstriction and aldosterone secretion, leading to lowered blood pressure and reduced cardiac workload.

Hydrochlorothiazide:
Hydrochlorothiazide is a thiazide diuretic that promotes the excretion of sodium and water through the kidneys. This reduction in plasma volume helps lower blood pressure and decreases the workload on the heart. It also enhances the antihypertensive effect of Valsartan when used in combination.

Mechanism of Action:
The combination of Valsartan and Hydrochlorothiazide provides complementary mechanisms for controlling blood pressure:

1. Valsartan relaxes blood vessels by inhibiting angiotensin II effects.

2. Hydrochlorothiazide reduces fluid retention, lowering blood volume and arterial pressure.
