Ulticort Cream 0.05% is a super-high potency topical corticosteroid designed for the treatment of various inflammatory skin conditions. It delivers potent anti-inflammatory, antipruritic, and vasoconstrictive effects to provide rapid relief from redness, itching, and irritation.

Indications:
Ulticort Cream 0.05% is indicated for the management of inflammatory dermatoses that respond to corticosteroid therapy, such as:

• Eczema and dermatitis

• Psoriasis

• Lichen planus

• Other corticosteroid-responsive skin conditions

Pharmacology:
Ulticort Cream contains halobetasol, a highly potent corticosteroid. Like other topical corticosteroids, it works by inducing proteins called lipocortins, which inhibit phospholipase A2. This action reduces the production of inflammatory mediators like prostaglandins and leukotrienes, helping to calm inflammation and itching.

Dosage & Administration:

• Cream/Ointment: Apply a thin layer to affected areas once or twice daily, gently rubbing it in. Limit treatment to 2 weeks and avoid exceeding 50 g per week. Discontinue therapy once control is achieved. Reassess the diagnosis if no improvement is seen within 2 weeks. Avoid occlusive dressings unless directed by a physician.

• Lotion: Apply once daily to affected areas, rubbing in gently. Wash hands after application unless treating the hands. Do not use for more than 8 weeks, and do not exceed 50 g per week. Avoid application on the face, groin, or underarms. Not for oral, ophthalmic, or intravaginal use.

Contraindications:
Do not use Ulticort Cream 0.05% in patients with a known hypersensitivity to any of its components.

Side Effects:
Infrequent adverse effects may include:

• Burning, itching, or dryness

• Folliculitis, acne, hypopigmentation

• Perioral dermatitis or allergic contact dermatitis

• Skin atrophy, striae, miliaria

• Secondary infections

Pregnancy & Lactation:
Use only if the potential benefit outweighs potential fetal risk. Caution is advised during breastfeeding, as systemic absorption may occur.

Precautions & Warnings:

• Prolonged or extensive use may lead to systemic effects such as HPA axis suppression, Cushing’s syndrome, hyperglycemia, or glucosuria.

• Patients using large doses or occlusive dressings should be monitored with urinary free cortisol or ACTH stimulation tests.

• If suppression occurs, reduce dosage, withdraw the drug, or switch to a less potent steroid.

Use in Special Populations:

• Not recommended for children under 12 years.

• Pediatric patients are at higher risk of systemic absorption and HPA axis suppression.
