Amoxicillin exerts its bactericidal effect by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis, leading to cell lysis and death of susceptible bacteria. However, many pathogenic bacteria produce beta-lactamase enzymes that can inactivate amoxicillin. Clavulanic acid irreversibly inhibits these beta-lactamase enzymes, protecting amoxicillin from degradation. This dual mechanism significantly extends the antimicrobial spectrum, making the combination effective against resistant Gram-positive and Gram-negative organisms.

Tyclav Injection is indicated for the treatment of infections caused by susceptible microorganisms, including:
Severe upper and lower respiratory tract infections such as pneumonia and complicated bronchitis
Ear, nose, and throat infections
Urinary tract infections
Skin and soft tissue infections, including cellulitis and wound infections
Bone and joint infections
Intra-abdominal infections
Gynecological infections

The dosage and duration of treatment should be determined by a physician based on the type and severity of infection, patient age, body weight, and renal function. Tyclav Injection is administered via intravenous or intramuscular route after proper reconstitution. It should be given at recommended intervals to maintain effective plasma concentrations. Administration must be performed by trained healthcare professionals.
In patients with renal impairment, dose adjustment may be required to avoid accumulation of the drug. Caution is also advised in patients with hepatic dysfunction, and periodic monitoring of liver function may be recommended during prolonged therapy.
Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to penicillins, cephalosporins, or beta-lactam antibiotics.
Use with caution in patients with a history of cholestatic jaundice or hepatic dysfunction associated with amoxicillin-clavulanate therapy.
Prolonged use may result in overgrowth of non-susceptible organisms.
Common adverse reactions include injection site reactions, gastrointestinal disturbances such as nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea, and mild skin rashes. Serious allergic reactions are rare but require immediate medical attention.
Store Tyclav Injection in a cool, dry place, protected from light. Reconstituted solution should be used promptly as per manufacturer’s instructions.
