Tropidil Eye Drop 1% contains Tropicamide, a short-acting mydriatic and cycloplegic agent used in ophthalmic examinations. It helps dilate the pupil and temporarily relax the eye’s focusing muscle, allowing detailed examination of the retina and other internal structures of the eye.

Indications

Tropidil Eye Drop is indicated for:

• Pupil dilation (mydriasis) for diagnostic eye examinations
• Cycloplegic refraction in eye testing
• Fundoscopic examination of the retina
• Pre-operative ophthalmic procedures
• Uveitis management (to reduce pain and prevent synechiae formation, as prescribed)

Mechanism of Action

Tropicamide is an anticholinergic agent that blocks muscarinic receptors in the eye. This leads to relaxation of the iris sphincter muscle (causing pupil dilation) and the ciliary muscle (causing loss of accommodation). Its short duration of action makes it suitable for routine eye examinations.

Dosage & Administration

• Instill 1–2 drops into the eye(s) as directed by an ophthalmologist
• Effect usually begins within 15–30 minutes
• Pupil dilation lasts for approximately 4–6 hours
• Use only under medical supervision
• Avoid touching the dropper tip to prevent contamination

Precautions

• For ophthalmic use only
• May cause temporary blurred vision and light sensitivity
• Avoid driving or operating machinery until vision returns to normal
• Use with caution in patients with glaucoma
• Remove contact lenses before use and wait before reinsertion
• Keep away from children

Side Effects

Possible side effects include:

• Temporary blurred vision
• Eye irritation or burning sensation
• Light sensitivity (photophobia)
• Dry mouth (rare)
