Indications

Precon 50 mg is indicated for:

• Treatment of hypertension (high blood pressure)

• Reduction of stroke risk in hypertensive patients with left ventricular hypertrophy

• Treatment of diabetic nephropathy in patients with type 2 diabetes

• Management of heart failure (in selected cases).

Dosage and Administration

• The usual starting dose for hypertension is 50 mg once daily.

• Dose may be adjusted based on blood pressure response and clinical condition.

• Can be taken with or without food.

• Should be taken at the same time each day for best results.

Patients with liver impairment or those taking diuretics may require dose adjustments. Always follow the physician’s instructions.

Mechanism of Action

Losartan selectively blocks the binding of angiotensin II to AT1 receptors. Angiotensin II normally causes blood vessels to constrict and stimulates aldosterone secretion, which increases blood pressure. By blocking this effect, losartan relaxes blood vessels, lowers blood pressure, and reduces strain on the heart.
