Omegaven Injection 10% is a sterile intravenous fat emulsion primarily composed of omega-3 fatty acids derived from fish oil. It is used as part of parenteral nutrition (intravenous nutrition) to provide calories and essential fatty acids in patients who cannot obtain adequate nutrition orally or enterally.
Omegaven is especially beneficial in patients requiring long-term parenteral nutrition and in those at risk of parenteral nutrition–associated liver disease (PNALD). The omega-3 fatty acids in Omegaven have anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory properties, making it a valuable component of specialized nutritional therapy.
