Novaclav Tablet 500 mg+125 mg is a combination antibiotic containing Amoxicillin, a broad-spectrum penicillin antibiotic, and Clavulanic Acid, a beta-lactamase inhibitor. This combination enhances the effectiveness of Amoxicillin by protecting it from bacterial enzyme (beta-lactamase) degradation. It is widely used for treating a variety of bacterial infections affecting the respiratory tract, urinary tract, skin, and soft tissues.

Composition
-
Amoxicillin Trihydrate equivalent to Amoxicillin 500 mg
-
Clavulanic Acid 125 mg
Mechanism of Action
Amoxicillin works by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis, leading to bacterial cell death. However, some bacteria produce beta-lactamase enzymes that can inactivate Amoxicillin. Clavulanic Acid blocks these enzymes, restoring and enhancing the antibacterial activity of Amoxicillin. Together, they provide broad-spectrum bactericidal action against susceptible organisms.
