Liptor Tablet 40 mg contains Atorvastatin Calcium, a highly effective HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor (statin), designed to manage elevated cholesterol and triglyceride levels in adults at high risk of cardiovascular disease. It is primarily prescribed for patients with hyperlipidemia, mixed dyslipidemia, or familial hypercholesterolemia who require significant reductions in low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C).
Atorvastatin works by inhibiting HMG-CoA reductase, the rate-limiting enzyme in hepatic cholesterol synthesis. This inhibition decreases intrahepatic cholesterol levels, triggering an upregulation of LDL receptors, which accelerates the clearance of LDL cholesterol from the bloodstream. Consequently, Liptor 40 mg helps reduce total cholesterol, LDL-C, and triglycerides, while modestly increasing high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C).
By effectively managing lipid levels, Liptor 40 mg reduces the progression of atherosclerosis and lowers the risk of cardiovascular events, including myocardial infarction, stroke, and angina. The tablet is intended for once-daily administration, providing convenient long-term therapy for adults requiring intensive lipid control.

Liptor Tablet 40 mg is indicated for:
Primary hypercholesterolemia (heterozygous familial and non-familial) to lower elevated LDL-C
Mixed dyslipidemia to reduce total cholesterol, LDL-C, and triglycerides
Prevention of cardiovascular events in patients with or at high risk of coronary heart disease
Homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia, as an adjunct to diet and other therapies, including LDL apheresis
Severe hypertriglyceridemia in patients requiring intensive lipid-lowering therapy
HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor (statin)
Atorvastatin selectively inhibits HMG-CoA reductase, the enzyme responsible for converting HMG-CoA to mevalonate, a precursor of cholesterol. This results in:
Reduced cholesterol synthesis in the liver
Increased hepatic LDL receptor expression, enhancing clearance of circulating LDL
Reduction in apolipoprotein B-containing lipoproteins
Moderate increase in HDL-C and decrease in triglycerides
These actions collectively slow the progression of atherosclerotic plaques and improve cardiovascular outcomes in patients with high cholesterol.
Adults: Take one tablet once daily, preferably in the evening, with or without food
Starting dose for high-risk patients may be 10–20 mg; 40 mg daily is used when greater LDL-C reduction is needed
Maximum recommended dose: 80 mg/day
Monitor lipid profiles periodically to assess efficacy and adjust the dose accordingly
Can be used as monotherapy or in combination with other lipid-lowering agents, such as bile acid sequestrants or ezetimibe
Hypersensitivity to atorvastatin or any of the tablet excipients
Active liver disease or unexplained persistent elevations in hepatic transaminases
Pregnancy and breastfeeding
Common side effects may include:
Headache, fatigue, nausea, diarrhea, abdominal discomfort
Mild transient elevations in liver enzymes
Rare but serious: myopathy, rhabdomyolysis, liver toxicity
Patients should promptly report muscle pain, tenderness, or weakness, especially if accompanied by malaise or fever.
Monitor liver function before starting and during therapy
Use with caution in patients with renal impairment or predisposing risk factors for myopathy
Avoid grapefruit juice, which may increase the risk of adverse effects
Caution when co-administered with medications metabolized by CYP3A4
Contraindicated during pregnancy and breastfeeding due to potential teratogenicity
Store in a cool, dry place below 30°C, away from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
Liptor Tablet 40 mg offers potent lipid-lowering therapy for adults with significant cardiovascular risk, helping achieve intensive LDL-C reduction and reduce the incidence of atherosclerotic cardiovascular events.
