Kilbac 500 mg contains Cefuroxime, a well-established second-generation cephalosporin antibiotic with broad-spectrum bactericidal activity. It is effective against a wide variety of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, including many β-lactamase–producing strains. Kilbac 500 mg is commonly prescribed for mild to moderately severe infections affecting the respiratory tract, skin, urinary tract, bones, and joints.

Second Generation Cephalosporins
Cefuroxime exerts its antibacterial effect by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis, leading to cell death. It is highly stable against bacterial β-lactamases and therefore remains effective against many organisms resistant to ampicillin and amoxicillin. This stability and broad coverage make it a reliable option for community-acquired infections.
Kilbac 500 mg is indicated for the treatment of infections caused by susceptible organisms, including:
Pharyngitis and tonsillitis caused by Streptococcus pyogenes
Acute bacterial otitis media caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae, Haemophilus influenzae, Moraxella catarrhalis, and Streptococcus pyogenes
Acute bacterial maxillary sinusitis
Lower respiratory tract infections including community-acquired pneumonia
Acute bacterial exacerbation of chronic bronchitis and secondary bacterial infections of acute bronchitis
Skin and skin-structure infections caused by Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus pyogenes
Urinary tract infections caused by E. coli and Klebsiella pneumoniae
Bone and joint infections caused by Staphylococcus aureus
Gonorrhoea caused by Neisseria gonorrhoeae
Early Lyme disease (erythema migrans) caused by Borrelia burgdorferi
Multidrug-resistant typhoid fever, as clinically indicated
Adults and Adolescents (13 years and older):
Pharyngitis/Tonsillitis: 250 mg twice daily for 5–10 days
Acute sinusitis: 250 mg twice daily for 10 days
Chronic bronchitis exacerbation: 250–500 mg twice daily for 10 days
Skin and skin-structure infections: 250–500 mg twice daily for 10 days
Uncomplicated UTI: 250 mg twice daily for 7–10 days
Community-acquired pneumonia: 250–500 mg twice daily for 5–10 days
MDR typhoid fever: 500 mg twice daily for 10–14 days
Early Lyme disease: 500 mg twice daily for 20 days
Uncomplicated gonorrhoea: 1000 mg as a single dose
Paediatric Patients (3 months to 12 years):
Pharyngitis/Tonsillitis: 20 mg/kg/day in two divided doses
Acute otitis media and sinusitis: 30 mg/kg/day in two divided doses
Impetigo: 30 mg/kg/day in two divided doses
Dosage should be adjusted according to severity of infection and clinical response.
