Kilbac 250 mg is an oral antibacterial formulation containing Cefuroxime, a second-generation cephalosporin antibiotic. It is indicated for the treatment of a wide range of infections caused by susceptible Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, including β-lactamase–producing strains. Kilbac 250 mg is commonly prescribed for respiratory, urinary, skin, and soft tissue infections in both adults and pediatric patients.

Second Generation Cephalosporins
Kilbac 250 mg is indicated for the treatment of infections caused by sensitive bacteria, including:
Ear, Nose, and Throat Infections
Pharyngitis and tonsillitis caused by Streptococcus pyogenes
Acute bacterial otitis media caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae, Haemophilus influenzae, Moraxella catarrhalis (β-lactamase producing strains), or Streptococcus pyogenes
Acute bacterial maxillary sinusitis caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae or Haemophilus influenzae
Lower Respiratory Tract Infections
Community-acquired pneumonia
Acute bacterial exacerbation of chronic bronchitis
Secondary bacterial infections of acute bronchitis
Skin and Skin-Structure Infections
Caused by Staphylococcus aureus (including β-lactamase producing strains) or Streptococcus pyogenes
Urinary Tract Infections
Caused by Escherichia coli or Klebsiella pneumoniae
Bone and Joint Infections
Caused by Staphylococcus aureus
Sexually Transmitted and Other Infections
Gonorrhoea caused by penicillinase-producing and non-producing strains of Neisseria gonorrhoeae
Early Lyme disease (erythema migrans) caused by Borrelia burgdorferi
Multidrug-resistant typhoid fever
Cefuroxime is a well-established bactericidal antibiotic that works by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis. It demonstrates excellent stability against bacterial β-lactamase enzymes, allowing it to remain effective against many strains resistant to ampicillin and amoxicillin. Its broad-spectrum activity covers numerous clinically significant pathogens.

Kilbac 250 mg is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to cephalosporin antibiotics.
Adverse effects are generally mild and transient. Reported effects include:
Skin rash
Gastrointestinal disturbances such as nausea or diarrhea
Prolonged use may result in overgrowth of non-susceptible organisms, including Candida species.
Cefuroxime is classified as US FDA Pregnancy Category B. It should be used during pregnancy only if clearly needed. The drug is excreted in human breast milk; therefore, caution is advised when administered to nursing mothers.
Use with caution in patients receiving potent diuretics
Caution is advised in patients with a history of colitis
Although cross-sensitivity with penicillin may occur, cephalosporins are generally safe at recommended doses
Store in a cool, dry place below 30°C, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of the reach of children.
Cefuroxime inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding to penicillin-binding proteins, leading to cell lysis and bacterial death. Its resistance to β-lactamase enzymes enhances its effectiveness against resistant bacterial strains.
