Idatix SR 1.5 mg is a sustained-release diuretic antihypertensive medication primarily used in the management of essential hypertension. It belongs to the class of thiazide diuretics and related drugs and is designed to provide smooth, long-lasting blood pressure control with once-daily dosing. In addition to its antihypertensive action, Idatix SR 1.5 mg is also beneficial in managing salt and fluid retention associated with congestive heart failure.

Thiazide diuretics & related drugs
Idatix SR 1.5 mg exhibits both renal and extra-renal antihypertensive effects. Its mechanism involves vasodilation, likely achieved by inhibiting the transmembrane passage of calcium and other ions such as sodium and potassium. This action results in reduced vascular hyperreactivity and a decrease in total peripheral and arteriolar resistance.
Although its diuretic activity may be reduced in patients with impaired renal function, its blood pressure–lowering effect remains effective, making it suitable for hypertensive patients with renal insufficiency.
Idatix SR 1.5 mg is indicated for:
Treatment of essential hypertension
Management of hypertension in patients with renal function impairment
Treatment of salt and fluid retention associated with congestive heart failure
The recommended dose is one tablet once daily, preferably taken in the morning.
In more severe cases of hypertension, Idatix SR 1.5 mg may be used in combination with other classes of antihypertensive agents.
Safety and effectiveness in pediatric patients have not been established.
Other antihypertensive agents: May have additive or potentiating effects on blood pressure reduction.
Norepinephrine: Responsiveness to norepinephrine may be decreased, similar to other thiazide diuretics.
Lithium: Concomitant use is not recommended, as diuretics reduce lithium renal clearance and significantly increase the risk of lithium toxicity.
Idatix SR 1.5 mg is contraindicated in patients with:
Hypersensitivity to sulfonamides
Severe renal failure
Hepatic encephalopathy or severe hepatic impairment
Hypokalaemia
Possible side effects include headache, anorexia, gastric irritation, nausea, vomiting, constipation, diarrhea, and other mild gastrointestinal disturbances. Most adverse effects are dose-related and reversible.

Regular monitoring of serum potassium and uric acid levels is recommended, particularly in patients predisposed to hypokalemia or those with gout. Patients with a known history of allergy to sulfonamide derivatives should be closely observed, although allergic reactions have been rare in clinical use.
Symptoms: Skin rashes, epigastric pain, nausea, dizziness, weakness, photosensitivity, paraesthesia, and electrolyte imbalance.
Treatment: Supportive and symptomatic management, with particular attention to correcting electrolyte disturbances.
There are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women; therefore, Idatix SR 1.5 mg is not recommended during pregnancy. Mothers taking this medication should not breastfeed, as potential risks to the infant cannot be excluded.
