Hypnofast Injection 5 mg/5 ml contains Midazolam, a short-acting benzodiazepine with potent sedative, anxiolytic, amnesic, and anticonvulsant properties. It is widely used in clinical practice for preoperative sedation, induction of anesthesia, management of acute seizures, and procedural sedation. Hypnofast provides rapid onset of action due to its high lipid solubility and rapid distribution, making it an effective and reliable choice for both hospital and emergency settings.

Hypnofast Injection 5 mg/5 ml is indicated for:
Preoperative and procedural sedation to alleviate anxiety and induce relaxation in patients undergoing minor or major procedures
Induction of general anesthesia, often in combination with other anesthetic agents
Short-term sedation in intensive care units (ICU)
Management of acute, prolonged, or refractory seizures (status epilepticus)
Adjunct therapy for conscious sedation during diagnostic or surgical procedures
Hypnofast is suitable for adult and pediatric patients under careful medical supervision, particularly in hospital or controlled settings.
Benzodiazepine
Sedative-Hypnotic and Anxiolytic
Midazolam enhances the activity of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA), an inhibitory neurotransmitter, by binding to the benzodiazepine site on the GABA-A receptor. This leads to:
Increased chloride ion influx into neurons
Hyperpolarization of nerve cells, reducing neuronal excitability
Sedative, hypnotic, anxiolytic, anticonvulsant, and muscle relaxant effects
Midazolam has a rapid onset (within minutes after intravenous administration) and a short duration of action due to redistribution from the central nervous system to peripheral tissues. It is metabolized primarily in the liver via CYP3A4, producing pharmacologically inactive metabolites excreted by the kidneys.
Adult dosage for sedation: 0.02–0.1 mg/kg IV, titrated slowly to effect
Pediatric dosage: 0.05–0.1 mg/kg IV, depending on age and clinical condition
Seizure management: 0.15–0.2 mg/kg IV, repeat as necessary under close monitoring
Administer intravenously (IV) or intramuscularly (IM) as prescribed; titrate slowly for safety
Use a luer-lock syringe and ensure resuscitation equipment is available
Important administration notes:
Monitor respiratory function, blood pressure, and oxygen saturation during administration
Adjust dose in elderly patients, those with hepatic impairment, or those receiving other CNS depressants
CYP3A4 inhibitors (e.g., ketoconazole, erythromycin) may increase Midazolam levels
CYP3A4 inducers (e.g., rifampicin, phenytoin) may reduce effectiveness
Additive sedative effects with alcohol, opioids, barbiturates, and other CNS depressants
Caution with antihypertensives or anticonvulsants
Hypersensitivity to Midazolam or other benzodiazepines
Severe respiratory insufficiency without ventilatory support
Acute narrow-angle glaucoma
Pregnancy and breastfeeding without specialist supervision
Common side effects include:
Drowsiness, sedation, and fatigue
Mild hypotension
Respiratory depression, especially with rapid IV injection
Amnesia and impaired coordination
Rare but serious effects:
Severe respiratory depression, apnea
Paradoxical reactions such as agitation or aggression
Allergic reactions including rash and anaphylaxis
Monitor vital signs continuously during administration
Ensure airway management and resuscitation equipment are immediately available
Avoid abrupt discontinuation after prolonged use to prevent withdrawal symptoms
Use cautiously in elderly, debilitated, or hepatic/renal impaired patients
Pregnancy: Category D; use only if benefits outweigh risks
Lactation: Avoid breastfeeding during treatment due to potential sedation of the infant
Store at 2–8°C in a refrigerator
Protect from light
Do not freeze
Keep out of reach of children.
