Active Ingredient: Sitagliptin 100 mg
Dosage Form: Oral tablet
Antidiabetic agent
DPP-4 inhibitor
Glipita Tablet is indicated for:
Type 2 diabetes mellitus in adults
Use as monotherapy when diet and exercise alone do not provide adequate glycemic control
Use in combination with other antidiabetic agents such as metformin, sulfonylureas, insulin, or thiazolidinediones
It is not indicated for the treatment of type 1 diabetes mellitus or diabetic ketoacidosis.
Sitagliptin works by selectively inhibiting the DPP-4 enzyme, which is responsible for the breakdown of incretin hormones such as glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) and glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP). By increasing incretin levels, Glipita enhances glucose-dependent insulin secretion from pancreatic beta cells and reduces glucagon release from alpha cells. This dual action leads to better blood glucose control, particularly after meals, without causing significant hypoglycemia when used alone.
The usual recommended dose is 100 mg once daily, taken orally with or without food.
Dosage adjustments may be required in patients with renal impairment.
Tablets should be swallowed whole with water.
Treatment should be continued as prescribed by a healthcare professional, along with appropriate lifestyle modifications.
Elderly Patients: Generally well tolerated; renal function should be monitored.
Renal Impairment: Dose reduction is necessary depending on the severity of kidney dysfunction.
Hepatic Impairment: Use with caution in severe hepatic disease.
Pregnancy and Lactation: Use only if clearly needed and prescribed by a physician.
