Composition

Each pack contains:

• 21 active tablets, each containing:

  • Norgestrel 0.3 mg

  • Ethinylestradiol 0.03 mg

• 7 brown inert tablets, each containing:

  • Ferrous fumarate 75 mg

Pharmacology

Femicon Tablet works primarily by suppressing gonadotropin release, thereby inhibiting ovulation. Additional contraceptive effects include:

• Thickening of cervical mucus, which restricts sperm entry

• Alteration of the endometrium, reducing the likelihood of implantation

Dosage and Administration

• Take one active (white) tablet daily for 21 consecutive days

• Follow with one inert (brown) tablet daily for the next 7 days

Drug Interactions

Reduced contraceptive effectiveness may occur with:

• Certain antibiotics and anticonvulsants

• Rifampicin, rifabutin, barbiturates, phenytoin, carbamazepine, topiramate, griseofulvin

Other notable interactions:

• Increased tacrolimus levels with ethinylestradiol

• Possible increase in theophylline, selegiline, and tizanidine levels

• Avoid concurrent use with troleandomycin, danazol, or gestrinone

Contraindications

Femicon Tablet should not be used in patients with:

• Pregnancy or suspected pregnancy

• Undiagnosed vaginal bleeding

• History of thromboembolic disorders or severe arterial disease

• Breast cancer or estrogen-dependent tumors

• Significant hepatic impairment or liver tumors

• Uncontrolled hypertension, diabetes with complications, or severe obesity

• Migraine with focal aura or history of stroke

• Breastfeeding during the first 6 months after delivery

Side Effects

Possible side effects include:

• Menstrual irregularities, spotting, or amenorrhea

• Nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain

• Headache, dizziness, nervousness, depression

• Breast tenderness or galactorrhea

• Weight changes and fluid retention

• Rare but serious effects such as thrombophlebitis or cholestatic jaundice

Pregnancy and Lactation

• Femicon Tablet should not be used during pregnancy

• If pregnancy is suspected or confirmed, discontinue use immediately

• Small amounts of hormones may pass into breast milk and may reduce milk quality and quantity

Alternative contraceptive methods are recommended during breastfeeding until full weaning.

Precautions and Warnings

• Use with caution in patients with cardiovascular disease, migraine, epilepsy, asthma, or depression

• Missed doses, vomiting, diarrhea, or drug interactions may reduce contraceptive effectiveness
