Duovas Tablet 5 mg + 40 mg is a fixed-dose combination antihypertensive medication containing Amlodipine Besilate 5 mg and Olmesartan Medoxomil 40 mg. This combination is designed for the effective management of hypertension (high blood pressure) in patients who require dual therapy for optimal blood pressure control.
Hypertension is a major risk factor for serious cardiovascular complications, including stroke, heart attack, heart failure, and kidney disease. Duovas combines two complementary mechanisms of action to provide better and more sustained blood pressure reduction compared to monotherapy.
Amlodipine is a calcium channel blocker (CCB) that relaxes blood vessels by inhibiting calcium entry into vascular smooth muscle cells, resulting in vasodilation and reduced peripheral resistance.
Olmesartan Medoxomil is an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) that prevents angiotensin II from binding to its receptors, thereby reducing vasoconstriction and decreasing aldosterone secretion. This leads to further relaxation of blood vessels and improved blood pressure control.
Together, these agents provide synergistic blood pressure reduction while maintaining good tolerability.

Antihypertensive Agent
Calcium Channel Blocker + Angiotensin II Receptor Blocker (ARB) Combination
Duovas Tablet is indicated for:
Treatment of essential hypertension
Patients not adequately controlled with single-agent therapy
Reduction of risk of cardiovascular complications associated with high blood pressure
Long-term management of blood pressure to prevent target organ damage
It is not intended for the initial treatment of hypertension unless recommended by a physician.
Amlodipine Besilate:
Blocks L-type calcium channels
Causes relaxation of peripheral arteries
Reduces systemic vascular resistance and lowers blood pressure
Olmesartan Medoxomil:
Selectively blocks angiotensin II type 1 (AT1) receptors
Prevents vasoconstriction and sodium retention
Reduces blood pressure and protects target organs such as the heart and kidneys
The combination ensures effective 24-hour blood pressure control with reduced risk of reflex tachycardia.
Recommended dose: one tablet once daily, or as prescribed by a physician
Can be taken with or without food
Swallow the tablet whole with water
Regular monitoring of blood pressure is advised
Dosage adjustments may be required based on patient response and tolerability
Duovas Tablet is generally well tolerated. Common side effects may include:
