Cardicil Tablet 5 mg contains Cilnidipine, a fourth-generation calcium channel blocker used primarily for the management of hypertension (high blood pressure). Cilnidipine belongs to the dihydropyridine class of calcium channel blockers and is unique for its dual action: it blocks both L-type and N-type calcium channels, resulting in vasodilation and reduction of peripheral vascular resistance.
By relaxing blood vessels, Cardicil lowers blood pressure, reducing the workload on the heart and improving overall cardiovascular health. Its N-type calcium channel inhibition also helps reduce sympathetic nerve activity, which may confer additional cardiovascular protective effects, including reduced heart rate variability and less cardiac stress.
Cardicil is well-suited for patients with mild to moderate hypertension, either as monotherapy or in combination with other antihypertensive agents. Its long-acting formulation allows for once-daily dosing, improving patient adherence and ensuring stable blood pressure control throughout the day.

Calcium Channel Blocker (Dihydropyridine)
Antihypertensive Agent
Cardicil Tablet 5 mg is indicated for:
Management of essential hypertension
Reduction of risk of cardiovascular complications associated with high blood pressure
Use as part of combination therapy for patients not adequately controlled on a single antihypertensive agent
Cilnidipine may also provide benefits in patients with hypertension associated with renal or metabolic disorders due to its nephroprotective and sympathetic inhibitory effects.
Cilnidipine lowers blood pressure through the following mechanisms:
L-type calcium channel inhibition: Reduces calcium influx in vascular smooth muscle, causing vasodilation of peripheral arteries
N-type calcium channel inhibition: Decreases sympathetic nerve activity, which may lower heart rate and reduce cardiac stress
Together, these actions result in decreased peripheral vascular resistance, reduced cardiac workload, and effective blood pressure control
Recommended dose: 5 mg once daily
Can be taken with or without food
Swallow the tablet whole with water; do not crush or chew
Dosage may be adjusted based on clinical response, with a maximum of 10 mg per day in some patients, under the supervision of a physician
Regular monitoring of blood pressure is advised to ensure effective control
Cardicil Tablet 5 mg is generally well tolerated. Common side effects may include:
Dizziness or light-headedness
Flushing
Mild headache
Peripheral edema (swelling of ankles or feet)
Rare but serious side effects may include hypotension, palpitations, or allergic reactions. Patients should report any severe or persistent symptoms to their healthcare provider.
