Azithromycin works by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis. It binds to the 50S subunit of the bacterial ribosome, thereby preventing translocation of peptides and halting bacterial growth. This mechanism results in a bacteriostatic effect, although bactericidal activity may occur at higher concentrations against certain pathogens.
One of the key advantages of azithromycin is its ability to concentrate within tissues and immune cells. This leads to high and sustained drug levels at the site of infection. Its long elimination half-life allows continued antibacterial activity even after the last dose, supporting shorter treatment regimens.
Dosage and duration depend on the type and severity of infection and should be determined by a physician.
Azin Capsule is usually taken once daily.
Capsules should be swallowed whole with water and may be taken with or without food.
Patients should complete the full prescribed course, even if symptoms improve early.
