Amlopin Tablet 5 mg is indicated for the treatment of:
Hypertension (High Blood Pressure)
Chronic Stable Angina
Vasospastic (Prinzmetal’s) Angina
Prevention of cardiovascular complications such as stroke, heart attack, and kidney damage associated with hypertension
Amlodipine works by inhibiting the influx of calcium ions into vascular smooth muscle and cardiac muscle cells. This action causes relaxation of blood vessels, leading to vasodilation. As a result, peripheral vascular resistance is reduced, lowering blood pressure and decreasing the workload on the heart. In angina, it improves oxygen supply to the heart muscle by dilating coronary arteries, thereby reducing the frequency and severity of chest pain episodes.
Amlodipine has a long duration of action, allowing once-daily dosing with consistent blood pressure control over 24 hours.
The usual recommended dose is 5 mg once daily, which may be adjusted by the physician based on patient response and clinical condition.
Tablets should be taken orally with or without food, preferably at the same time each day.
Dose adjustments may be required in elderly patients or those with liver impairment.
Most patients tolerate Amlopin Tablet well. However, some may experience:
Headache
Dizziness or lightheadedness
Peripheral edema (swelling of ankles or feet)
Flushing
Fatigue or palpitations
These effects are usually mild and transient. Persistent or severe reactions should be reported to a healthcare professional.
Use with caution in patients with severe hepatic impairment.
Not recommended for use during pregnancy and breastfeeding unless clearly advised by a physician.
Patients should avoid abrupt discontinuation without medical advice.
Regular blood pressure monitoring is recommended during treatment.
Amlodipine may interact with other antihypertensive agents, increasing the blood pressure–lowering effect. Care should be taken when used with CYP3A4 inhibitors or in combination with other cardiovascular drugs.
